RWE Renewables has given the go-ahead for the construction of its new Rozdrazew wind farm. The project, situated approximately 80 km southeast of Poznan, comprises 7 Nordex wind turbines with a capacity of 2.4 megawatts (MW) each. All necessary approvals for the construction and grid connection of the wind farm have been granted. Construction work is set to commence as early as the first quarter of 2021. The investment totals around 22 million euros.
RWE already operates several onshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of approximately 390 MW in Poland. Since the new project is located close to another RWE wind farm (Wielkopolska I), it will be possible to leverage operation and maintenance synergies between the two sites. This investment decision demonstrates once again the company’s firm commitment to one of the most attractive wind markets in Europe.
In 2020, several projects made great progress. Nawrocko wind farm near Szczecin with a capacity of seven 7 megawatts went on stream as recently as spring 2020. In October, Zukowice wind farm (33 MW) was connected to the grid and is currently being commissioned. The company also started construction work on the Dolice onshore wind farm, a 47.5 MW project in West Pomerania. And the next onshore project in the pipeline is ready to go. Wierzchlas wind farm (7.2 MW) was successful in the latest Polish auction in December 2020. Construction is set to commence this year.
But RWE Renewables in Poland is not only active on land. Just recently, the company has signed the Grid Connection Agreement for its first Polish offshore project. The 350 MW wind farm FEW Baltic II is being developed in the Polish part of the Baltic sea and is planned to be one of the first to start construction in Poland. Once in operation, the wind farm will be capable to supply sustainable renewable energy for around 350,000 households. Construction work may commence as early as 2025.
As one of the world´s leading renewable energy companies RWE Renewables is already operating onshore and offshore wind farms, photovoltaic plants and battery storage systems with a total capacity of approximately nine gigawatts (GW). RWE plans to invest 5 billion euros net in its renewables portfolio by 2022 and expand it to a net capacity of 13 GW. The expansion is focusing on the core markets in Europe, the Americas and the Asian-Pacific region.
